Short description, research and educational contributions

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Nis provides three levels of academic studies: Bachelor, Master and Doctor. The education of students is organized in the the following ?elds: Energy and Process Engineering; Information and Production Technologies Engineering and Industrial Management; Machine Construction; Development and Engineering; Mechatronics and Control; Traffc Engineering; Transport and Logistics.

The Department of Machine Construction, Development and Engineering was founded in 1973. The Department comprises the following subjects: Machine elements, Basics of Design Theory, Computer-Aided Design and Structures’ Optimization, Metal and Welded Structures, Theory and Methods of Machine Systems Design, Reliability of Machine Systems, Qualimetry and Standardization, Gearing, Mining and Construction Tools, Intermittent Transport Machines, Machines of Continuous Transport, Technologicity, Systems of Internal Transport and Storage, Welding, Design Methods, Means of Store and Integral Transport. The following fields and scientific disciplines are studied at the Department: - theory and principles of design in mechanical engineering, calculation, geometry and form of machine members, reliability and technologicality of elements and machine devices; - qualimetry and standardization; - metal structures and welding; -  computer design and structure optimization. “Machines Development and Construction Center” (MDCC) was established in 2004 within the Department.  The mission of MDCC is application of complex systems for development of products, to use systematic approach for searching, finding, evaluating and choosing the constructional solution in order to develop high quality and market competitive products.

In particular, the Department of Machine Construction, Development and Engineering aims participating in the current CEEPUS project through investigation of the following research topics:
      Methods of mechanical systems (MS) design: Stages of MS creation; Evaluation methods and indicators of quality; Basic principles of quality management;
      Technology of  mechanical systems (MS): Technological rating; Technology of elements developed by casting process; Technology of elements developed by deformation process; Technology of elements created by welding; Technology overhaul of elements of MS;
      Welded machine construction: Application of welding in the function of mechanical structures; Design of groove shape in the function of the load; Calculation of reliability of welded joints and structures; Design of mechanical structures of welding technology;
      Testing the quality of welded joints: Inspection of welded joints by non destruction techniques; Testing the welded joints with the destruction of the material;
      Modern welding techniques: Welding method FSW (Friction Welding Sear); Application of WSF methods, Thermal characteristics of FSW;
      Technical diagnostics of mechanical systems: systems for monitoring and protecting of mechanical systems; Predictive maintenance systems; Proactive maintenance systems;
      Application of microcontroller in the technical diagnostics: PIC Microcontrollers in machine vibration diagnostics, Control of PIC microcontrollers signals.
