The Department was established as a Department of
Machinery in 1953.
The founder and a long standing Head of Department
(1953-1975) was Prof. Eng. Boris Popov. After him the leadership position was
taken consecutively by
Prof. D.Sc. Eng. Kancho Popov (1975-1990), Prof.
D.Sc. Eng. Dimitar Panchovski
(1990-1992), Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Mariana Popova
(1992-2000) and Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Alexander Alexandrov
(2000-2016).
From June 2016 till present time the Head of Department is Assoc. Prof.
Ph.D.
In 1953 are appointed the first full-time lecturers at
the Department – Assoc. Prof. Boris Popov and Ass. Prof. Dimitar Panchovski and Ass.
Prof. Georgi Mriankov.
In the next six years (from 1954 to 1960), the following
colleagues joined to the Department as lecturers: Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Stoyan Zlatev, Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Zarko
Popov (as part-time assistant professor), Assoc. Prof. Eng. Jelyazko
Mazdrakov, Prof. Ph.D. Eng. Mariana Popova and Prof. D.Sc. Eng. Kancho
Popov.
During 1962-72 as full-time assistant professors are
employed: Assoc.Prof. Ph.D.
In 1988 the Department is renamed into Department of
Applied Mechanics.
Subsequently, from 1975 to 2012
start their work at the Department and colleagues: Prof. Ph.D.
Currently the teaching staff of the Department consists
of three Professors, seven Associate Professors and three Assistant Professors
(two D.Sc. and ten Ph.D.).
In 2006 Prof. D.Sc. Eng. Kliment
Hadjov from our Department was honored with a title
Doctor Honoris Causa of the
