Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies
Department of Manufacturing Technologies
Prof. PhD Eng. Jozef NOVAK-MARCINCIN
Short description, research and educational contributions

The Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies of the Technical University of Kosice with a seat in Presov was established in 1992. Since then, the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies has gradually become one of the standard faculties of the Technical University of Kosice as well as one of the standard technology oriented faculties in the Slovak Republic. It is the only technology oriented faculty in Presov Region. For those who are interested in university technical education, the Faculty offers courses in accredited study programs of the study branches Manufacturing Technologies, Manufacturing Technique, Mechanical Engineering Technologies and Materials, and Industrial Engineering  at  all three  levels (bachelor, engineer, PhD) in both full-time and part-time forms of study. On the faculty study in academic year 2011/12 about 1500 students in all levels and forms.

The Department of Manufacturing Technologies provides activities in area of teaching and science to problems of standard mechanical manufacturing technologies, progressive technologies and computer support of manufacturing technologies. Scientific projects are mainly oriented to problems of manufacturing cutting processes, plasma cutting processes, manufacturing tribological processes, modelling and simulation of the technological processes, computer aided process planning, technology of virtual technologies and virtual manufacturing and study of rapid prototyping processes.

The following laboratories are used and operated within the Department:
   -  CNC machines and progressive technologies;
   -  Technical materials and their testing;
   -  CAD/CAM/CAE systems;
   -  Modelling and simulation of the technological processes;
   -  Tribotechnical diagnostics;
   -  Measurement and diagnostics;
   -  Virtual reality technologies and rapid prototyping processes.

Workers of Department of Manufacturing Technologies are involved in many scientific and educational projects supported by national funds and European Union (Tempus, Copernicus, Socrates-Erasmus, CEEPUS, etc.). From these the most important are: project oriented to study of main characteristics change of cut surface depending on parameters of process media change, project from area of Implementation of out-sourcing methods of manufacturing processes management. Out-sourcing decision making processes. Implementation phases of out-sourcing management and project oriented to Creative use of progressive tools for design phases using the modern tools with elements of artificial intelligence as strategic approaches for implementation of modern technologies. It will include the SW technologies (CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM/PLM), optimization of product design focused on price and manufacturing costs, cooperation and out-sourcing on product design, modern CAPP systems and their implementation. The educational and research contribution of this partner unit will cover the following areas: manufacturing engineering, computer aided manufacturing technologies, virtual reality technologies, as well as mechanical manufacturing technologies, progressive technologies and tribotechnical diagnostics.
